This is my own version of the owl cushion. I was in the Lake district last year and every gift shop shelf was heavily laden with them. The main problem is the cushion that goes inside. I personally just used a fairly flat pillow and cut it into the desired owl shape making sure it was properly covered with a nice cotton case as well. Then after you’ve cut your owl shape out start layering it up with the owls eyes, ears, feathers, wings, whatever you want to add and I used a pink polka dot fabric with two poppers for the back. Easy …
I added large buttons for the owls pupils as it really made them pop! Another helpful tip is to turn buttons around; sometimes the backs of buttons are more interesting that the fronts. I would say that I often sew buttons on the wrong side; mattering to what look I want to achieve. Because these large buttons would potentially dig into someones back, turning them back to front means that you never have this problem. By the way, this photo was shot with the cushion on my childs version of a famous ikea chair … the cushion isn’t that big!!!
